New Zealand Tour

Day 1

We will take you to your accomodation. Dependent on the time of arrival, we will go out and discover the town and attend 'the Last Post' at the Menin Gate in Ypres.

Day 2

We will visit the 'In Flanders Fields museum', where we will be getting to know all about a person who experienced 'The Great War'. We then subsequently depart for Messines, where will retrace the steps of the New Zealand soldiers and also obtain a complete overview of exactly what happened on 7th June.

We will visit the:

  • New Zealand momument
  • Sint-Niklaas Church with the VC Frickelton monument
  • Messines Ridge British Cemetery
  • Pool of Peace and Bayernwald - Croonaert Wood

Day 3

We will visit the Memorial Passendaele 1917 museum. We will see where the New Zealand soldiers won on 4th October and where they experienced the very blackest day of their military history: 12th October.

We will visit:

  • Buttes New Cemetery
  • Polygoon Wood
  • Tyne Cot
  • 's Graventafel - Broodseinde Memorial
  • Berlin Wood
  • Bellevue Spurs and VC Nicholas' monument

Day 4

We will visit the Ypres Salient ..., and see the scars left behind by the 'Great War' ...

We wil see:

  • Hell Fire Corner
  • Huts Cemetery ('shot at dawn' V.M. Spencer)
  • Essex Farm (where John McCrae wrote his poem)
  • Yorkshire Trench
  • Francis Ledwidge's grave
  • The Canadian Monument
  • Langemark (German mass burial site)
  • Poperinge (Talbot House)
  • Hill 60 and 62

Day 5

We will be visiting Northern France.

We will see both the major events from the great Somme Offensive, as well as the more specific New Zealand locations, including this one dating back to 1918.

We will see:

  • Le Boiselle crater from the 1st July 1916
  • Thiepval
  • New Zealand memorial in Longueval
  • Flers
  • Bullecourt
  • Le Quesnoy
  • Underground tunnels in Arras

We will return to Ypres after the Somme and once again attend the Last Post ...

You have the option of extending this trip to two days.
